Police have identified a teenager who was fatally shot in Peckham earlier this week.

On Monday 6 September, at approximately 21:30hrs, officers heard the sound of a gunshot nearby and diverted to Pearse Street SE15 to investigate.

On arrival they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. London Ambulance Service also attended but the victim died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and although we await formal identification we are confident that the victim is Rio McFarlane, aged 18, from Peckham.

A post-mortem examination took place at Greenwich Mortuary on Tuesday 7 September and gave the cause of death as a single gunshot wound to the chest.

A murder investigation has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Tony Boughton from Trident.

Two males [A] aged 21 and [B] aged 18 were arrested near to the scene on Monday 6 September and were taken to a south London police station. They have since been bailed to return on a date in late October.

[C] A man, aged 22, was also arrested on Tuesday 7 September and has been taken to a North London police station. Enquiries continue.
