Karroubi son visits parents under house arrest in Iran

The youngest son of opposition leader Mahdi Karroubi has released a statement saying that he met up with his parents on the night of 20 March.

In his statement published just minutes ago by Saham News, the official website of Karroubi’s Nation Trust Party, Ali Karroubi said that “last night, hours before the [Iranian] New Year, I, along with my wife, had the pleasure of meeting our dear parents and having dinner with them in coordination and in the presence of security officials.”

According to Ali Karroubi, his parents were “in full health and wellbeing.”

On Friday, Karroubi’s website reported that another Ali Karroubi, had been released from jail on bail. He who was arrested about a month ago, paid bail of one billion Rials ($90,000, or 63,000 Euros).

Also in recent days, Karroubi’s other son Mohammad Taghi said he met up with his father at the family home after a separation of more than five weeks. "After 38 days of having been deprived of meeting my father and my mother, I was able to see them at their apartment," he wrote on his personal blog.

Green Movement leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi disappeared following opposition protests on 14 February when protesters took to the streets in support of uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt.
