Fake mortgage broker Saverio Creti charged with fraud, Markham

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Fraud Unit and #5 District Uniform Patrol, have arrested one male suspect in connection with a mortgage fraud in the Town of Markham.

In January 2011, a man, who was posing as a mortgage broker with Dominion Lending Centres, was introduced to the elderly victim. The victim was seeking a mortgage for her home and paid the man an up-front fee of $1,600, however, no mortgage was ever obtained. The victim reported the incident to police.

On Wednesday, March 16, 2011, police arrested the suspect without incident at the victim’s residence.

CHARGED:
 Saverio CRETI, 59, of no fixed address

CHARGE:
 Fraud Under $5,000

Mr. CRETI has been held in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Monday, March 21, 2011.

Police have confirmed that Mr. CRETI was never employed by Dominion Lending Centres and has never been a licensed mortgage broker or agent in Ontario. Investigators are asking anyone who may have dealt with Mr. CRETI to contact police.
