The Edmonton Police Service is cooperating with an Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) investigation into an officer-involved shooting that happened early this morning.

EPS officers responded to a call regarding a distraught male in the city’s west end after 11 p.m. on March 30, 2011. Shortly after 12 a.m. on March 31, 2011, the male was located by police in the area of 100 Avenue and 155 Street. The incident escalated to the point of an officer-involved shooting. The male was transported by EMS to hospital in serious condition and later died from his injuries.

The Government of Alberta Solicitor General Office was notified and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating. EPS Victim Services and the Critical Incident Stress Management Team have also been called in to provide support.
