Death of 10 year old Brampton boy ruled a homicide

Officers from the Homicide Bureau have assumed control of an investigation which involves the death of a 10 year-old child.

On Friday, May 27, 2011, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Peel Regional Police and Peel Paramedics responded to a medical assistance call at a Homeland Court address in Brampton.

On arrival, a 10 year-old male child was found without vital signs. He was declared dead shortly thereafter.

The victim has been identified as Shakeil BOOTHE, a 10 year-old male from Brampton.

A post-mortem was conducted on Saturday, May 28, 2011, the results of which will not be made available.

The victim’s father, Garfield BOOTHE, a 31 year-old male from Brampton, has been charged with one count of Fail to Provide the Necessities of Life. Further charges are expected.

The suspect attended a brief court appearance on Saturday, May 28, 2011, where he was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

This death is Peel’s eighth homicide of the year.
