At approximately 01:28 hours on June 11, 2011, the West Kelowna RCMP Detachment received a notification through BC Ambulance of a single vehicle roll over accident that occurred approximately 10 kilometres up Bear Creek Main – Forest Service Road from Westside Road in West Kelowna.

A 25 year old male had been "car-surfing" on top of a vehicle being driven by a 27 year old male friend. The two males were part of a group of people who were camping in the area overnight. The driver lost control of the vehicle on the gravel road causing it to leave the roadway and tumble down a 17 metre embankment. The 25 year old male on the roof of the vehicle died at the scene. The 27 year old driver was taken into custody and could possibly be charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Death. Investigators are examining if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
