Five year old Toronto girl dies after being hit by car

On Friday, June 17, 2011, at 2:33 p.m., police responded to a call for a child struck collision at the intersection of Wedgewood Drive/Yonge Street.

It is reported that:

– a mother and her five-year-old daughter were walking across Wedgewood Drive, on the east side of Yonge Street, from the north to the south, within the pedestrian crosswalk area,

– a Toyota Camry, driven by a 27-year-old woman, was stopped at the intersection,

– as the mother and child were walking in front of the car, the car moved forward striking them.

The child was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
