The victim, Markita Bailey, 28, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Francois and Senior Police Officer R. Davidson reported:
A red Acura 2.3 TL was traveling westbound in the 7900 block of West Fuqua at the intersection of Fondren when Ms. Bailey, driving a gray Ford Freestar minivan, made a left turn from Fondren onto Fuqua, hitting the Acura. The driver of the Acura admitted he was speeding and ran a red light. The impact of the collision caused the Ford to roll over several times. Bailey, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the Ford. Three other passengers in the Ford, 1-year-old and 12-year-old girls and a 18-year-old man, were all transported to area hospitals. The driver of the Acura was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was evaluated for signs of intoxication, but none were found.
The investigation is continuing.
