On June 28, 2011, at approximately 6:30 p.m., District 6 RCMP received a call from a person fishing on the Main Southwest Miramichi River in the Doaktown area that they had found a body in the river.

The body has been identified as 81-year-old, Doctor John ‘Jack’ MacKay of Fredericton. Dr. MacKay was reported missing on June 23 after being reported that he fell overboard while fishing in the Porter Cover area. An intensive search was conducted by District 6 RCMP with the assistance of York Sunbury Search & Rescue, Department of Fisheries & Oceans, Department of Natural Resources, Doaktown and Boiestown Fire Departments, Transport Canada as well as many local individuals from the area who assisted in the search.
