On Thursday, July 21st, 2011 just after 2:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of St Marys Road and Guay Avenue for a report of a commercial robbery of a cab driver by a male suspect armed with a knife.

Responding Uniform members located a suspect at which time a confrontation took place. As a result, a firearm discharge occurred, striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition and he has since been upgraded to stable condition.

No one else was injured during this incident.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit and no additional information is available at this time.
