American is presently facing a jobless rate of 9.1%. In order to cater to the growing job needs, President Obama signed the American Invents Act. It is designed to shorten the patent approval process, which Obama says is currently averaging about three years.

“These are jobs and businesses of the future, just waiting to be created,” Obama said. “We should be making it easier and faster to turn new jobs into new ideas and new businesses.”

President Obama also took the time while signing the patent law to sell lawmakers on his $447 billion jobs bill. He has been travelling across the country to promote his jobs act.  “I’ve got another bill I want to get passed to help the economy right away,” Obama said during a signing ceremony at a high school in Alexandria, Va. “It’s called the American Jobs Act.”

However, his job plans have faced strong opposition. “Let’s be honest with ourselves,” said Boehner, an Ohio Republican. “The president’s proposals are a poor substitute for the pro-growth policies that are needed to remove barriers to job creation in America.”
