A 34-year-old man has been charged with producing child pornography following a year long investigation by the Edmundston City Police Force and the New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

Shane Evan McCabe of no fixed address was arrested on February 2, 2012 upon his release from jail where he was serving time for failing to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for past convictions.

McCabe appeared in Moncton court on Thursday and was charged with making child pornography. He will be back in court on February 3 at 1:30 p.m. for a bail hearing. Further charges are possible as the investigation is ongoing.

The investigation began in March 2011 when images of child sexual abuse were found scattered around the city of Edmundston.

Update: The bail hearing for Shane Evan McCabe has been adjourned to February 17 at 9:30 a.m.
