The infamous prime suspect in killing-and-dismemberment case, Luka Rocco Magnotta, collapsed in court during the preliminary hearing as he appeared to be distressed by seeing all the evidence being provided against him on Tuesday. Magnotta abruptly fell on his right side, crumpled into a fetal position while still handcuffed and shackled. Addressing the guards outside courtroom, Crown prosecutor, Louis Bouthillier, alleged that “you might want to make room for an ambulance,” later adding that “somebody’s collapsed.”

Magnotta’s lawyer approached to check in on him, staring at him from across the glass-enclosed defendant’s box in the special high-security courtroom. The episode took place soon after Magnotta saw more evidence being provided in the gruesome case, whose content has been placed under a publication ban for now. The evidence provided in the hearing will be made public, in case,  the case goes to trial. Magnotta kept his hand over his mouth, during the hearing, depicting that he might be feeling ill. His eyes remained closed for larger part of the session. The 30-year-old suspect has been seen wiping tears, behind his glass box, several times.

Almost 10 minutes after the segment of the hearing commenced, Magnotta asked the bailiff, next to him, to convey his request for a break. The bailiff raised his finger for permission to speak and requested the judge for a five-minute pause. The judge accepted the request and ordered an extended break for lunch, soon after which Magnotta stood up and collapsed to the floor.
