In a new recently conducted poll by Forum Research, it was reported that the ongoing critical controversy engulfing Rob Ford’s regime as Toronto Mayor has done very little to affect his popularity. The poll, which sampled almost 1,400 Torontonians, studied the popularity of candidates in a number of hypothetical matchups for the upcoming 2014 race for mayor. However, the polls still found out that Ford might only lose to Olivia Chow, in case the NDP MP decided to run for race.

The poll revealed that Chow would gather an easy win in a head-to-head race with Ford, as she acquired 57 per cent of the votes in comparison to Ford’s 36 per cent while almost nine per cent respondents remained undecided. Whereas, in another hypothetical  three way race between Ford, Chow and former Progressive Conservative party leader John Tory, it was found that Chow would still lead with about 42 per cent of the vote to Ford’s 27 per cent and Tory’s 24 per cent. In another scenario, where TTC Chair Karen Stintz announced to enter the race as Tory candidate, it was found that Chow would win 42 per cent of the vote compared to Ford’s 34 per cent and Stintz’s 16 per cent.

The president of Forum Research, Lorne Bozinoff, mentioned in a press release that “Rob Ford is really both the Teflon and Kevlar Mayor – nothing sticks to him and nothing penetrates his armour.” He added that “although he still doesn’t beat Olivia Chow in the trial heats, his recent troubles have had absolutely no effect on his electoral prospects.”
