Vancouver Police are announcing an arrest in the July 6th attack on a 19 year old woman in the 3500 block of S. E. Marine Drive. Investigators are also appealing for a witness to come forward.

Thirty-five year old New Westminster resident Benjamin Palk, also known as Benjamin Palk Trussart, was arrested on July 16th and has been charged with one count of sexual assault.

Investigators still want to speak to a Good Samaritan who intervened to stop the attack and are asking the man to contact the VPD Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717- 2644.

The arrest came after Vancouver Police issued a public appeal and surveillance images of a person of interest on July 8th. Lead investigator Detective Constable Alison Laurin and a team from the VPD Sex Crimes Unit diligently followed up on the many tips received from the public which resulted in the identification and subsequent arrest of the man seen in the surveillance images. Local media coverage is being credited for the large number of tips that came in to investigators.

Benjamin Palk will be in Provincial court on Monday, July 19th at 2:00 p.m. He is not known to police.
