The Hamilton Police Service Break, Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (BEAR) Unit has arrested and charged a man with numerous offences in relation to a variety store robbery that occurred in late July.

On Friday July 23rd, 2010 at approximately 11:00 p.m., two males, armed with a machete, entered the Cardinal Variety at 1032 Upper Wellington St., and robbed the 55 yr. old male clerk of cash. The clerk was not physically harmed. The Hamilton Police Service BEAR Unit continued to investigate and through their investigation determined who was allegedly responsible for the robbery.

On Friday, August 6th, 2010 at approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the BEAR Unit assisted by the Vice and Drugs Unit, executed a search warrant at a home on Highland Rd. E. in the area of 3 Rd. E. Hamilton. Officers seized a quantity of marihuana, body armour, a 380 cal. handgun with an empty magazine and a machete believed to be used in the July 23rd robbery. Four people were arrested and taken into police custody. Three were eventually released unconditionally. The fourth, a male resident of the home, was charged with numerous offences.
