Hamilton Police officer Andrew Pauls charged with theft

A 9-year member of the Hamilton Police Service was arrested and charged on August 6, 2010 as a result of an on-duty theft investigation.

On July 23, 2010, Hamilton Police found that the Division 1 locked drug deposit box had been broken into by the pad lock being removed. Oxycocet tablets had been stolen from the box.

The Hamilton Police Service conducted an extensive investigation with the assistance of outside police services. This further investigation resulted in the following arrest:

Charged: Andrew PAULS, 32 years, Hamilton

Charges: Theft of Property Valued Under $5000 (2 counts)
Possession of Property Valued Under $5000
Possession Schedule 1 – Other Drugs CDSA 4(1)
Breach of Trust

Officer Pauls was released on a Promise to Appear with and Undertaking and will appear in court on September 2, 2010. The officer has been suspended from duty with pay.

  1. I do not understand why an officer who is suspended is ALWAYS suspended WITH PAY. If he is found guilty, he should be forced to repay all monies pacomment_ID to him after the comment_date of the theft. Being a drug addict or a thief doesn’t entitle anyone to be pacomment_ID by the taxpayers. It is a way past time that all employees of a police department be held accountable at their own expense.
