The fatal shooting of a man at 838 Greens Road about 11:45 p.m. on Friday (August 13) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The victim, Elvin Jeovanny Flores, 35, of the above address, suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants D.A. Ferguson and J.T. Parker reported:

Flores and a friend were outside Flores’ apartment drinking beer and talking when they were approached by Roderick McGuire, 26, and a second male, both security guards for Spartan Security. McGuire asked the men to turn down their music and go inside. Flores’ friend complied but Flores, whom witnesses stated was intoxicated, began hollering at the security guards and threw a beer bottle at them. Flores then went inside his apartment, retrieved a fireplace poker and came outside yelling and waving the poker at McGuire and the other guard. Flores then went back inside his apartment and came outside with a large butcher knife, still yelling and threatening both men with the knife. Both men told Flores to drop the knife several times. Flores then went back inside the apartment and exited the patio door. He then jumped a tall fence surrounding the patio and attempted to stab McGuire. McGuire, in fear for his safety and for those around him, discharged his weapon one time, striking Flores.

No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is continuing.
