Prime Minister Stephen Harper has officially endorsed the controversial Conservative MP Rob Anders. The scandalous Calgary MP has previously faced sheer criticism for calling Nelson Mandela a terrorist and falling asleep in the Commons and more. Mr. Anders is said to be having a difficult time running against a former provincial cabinet minister, Ron Liepert.

However, the excessively experienced 17-year MP has succeeded in bagging an endorsement from the prime minister. According to Anders’ website, Mr. Harper has said that “Rob Anders has been a strong voice in our Caucus and Conservative Government as well as a valued member of our team.” Additionally, the website quotes Harper saying that “The Road to 2015 is one that needs strong, stable leadership and I’ve been able to count on Rob to get real results for his riding and our country.”

Mr. Harper and Mr. Anders have a long history, the 14-year-old Anders confirmed in an October 2012 interview that he has known Harper for more than half his life. Moreover, he added that late Joseph Harper was one of his biggest influences, who is none other than the prime minister’s dad. Upon inquiry about the authenticity of the quote on Mr. Ander’s website, the Conservative Party of Canada spokesperson confirmed that it was accurate. Director of communications, Cory Hann, stated that “I can confirm that this quote can be attributed to the Prime Minister and Leader of our Party. It reflects the Prime Minister’s views about his caucus member.”
