Mujiburahman Safi arrested for firearm offences in Pickering

Two separate incidents involving armed persons resulted in arrests and charges for both men in Oshawa and Pickering last night.

On Sunday October 31, 2010 at approximately 8 p.m. officers from West Division responded to a reported armed person incident at Kingston Road and Whites Road in Pickering. Officers arrived to the scene and observed the suspect vehicle parked unoccupied. Officers located the suspect nearby and a search of the suspect vehicle resulted in the seizure of a handgun, ammunition and illicit drugs. The suspect was arrested without incident.

Mujiburahman SAFI, age 28 of Liverpool Road in Pickering is charged with: Possession of an Unauthorized Firearm; Firearm – Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession; Firearm in a Motor Vehicle; Careless Storage of a Firearm; Possession of a Controlled Substance and Fail to Comply with Recognizance x2. The accused was held for a bail hearing.

The second incident took place at approximately 8:15 p.m. in the area of Dean Avenue and Harmony Road south in Oshawa, involving a distraught 46-year-old male resident walking through the neighborhood with a loaded hunting rifle, following a verbal disagreement with a family member. Officers arrived and safely arrested the accused without incident. No injuries resulted from his actions. The accused was arrested and charged.
