The president of Red River College, Stephanie Forsyth, has announced to tender her resignation “for personal and family reasons.” The announcement made by the college’s board of directors said that “the Board wishes to express its appreciation to Ms. Forsyth for her work on behalf of the College. The search for a new President has already begun and the Board is satisfied that there will be a variety of well-qualified candidates seeking this position.”
Furthermore, the announcement mentioned that the Vice-president of student services and planning, David Rew, has been temporarily appointed to act as the acting president in the interim. Prior to her resignation, Forsyth was reviewed by the college last April after an access to information request by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation found she expensed $200 golf shoes, a 2011 driver’s licence, $374.25 worth of ballet tickets, and a $134 duffel bag. Whereas overall, the total of the claim she filed between September 2010 and January 2013 showed expenses worth of $78,842.21.
However in her response to the criticism, Forsyth adamantly stated that she didn’t file any expenses that she felt were questionable. But having said that, she stressed to have decided to pay for the shoes anyway, in order to erase any doubts about her expenses, while pledging to pay back anything the college required. Back in November, she mentioned that “I agree that golf shoes are an unusual item to submit but they were and are ONLY used for college business,” adding that “however, I understand some people might find the expense questionable, so I will repay this expense.”
