Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has straightforwardly dismissed all claims from his rival mayoral candidate, John Tory, which essentially alleged that he will not be able to work with other levels of government on an ambitious plan to build 32 kilometres in new underground transportation lines.

In his remarks on Wednesday, John Tory mentioned that Mr. Ford will fail to implement his transportation plan because he “can’t get along with anybody.” Furthermore, Mr. Tory speculated that Mr. Ford has probably not talked to either Premier Kathleen Wynne or Prime Minister Stephen Harper “for months and months.” He stated that “I think if they saw him across the street they would run the other way and that is not the prescription for getting transit built.”

In response to Mr. Tory’s remarks, Mr. Ford mentioned on Wednesday afternoon that his work in obtaining $660 million in federal funding for the planned extension of the Bloor-Danforth line into Scarborough proves that he can work with others. In addition to that, Mayor Ford alleged that Prime Minister Stephen Harper might be even getting in touch with Tory to straighten the record. He mentioned that “I know him (Harper) well and I know he doesn’t like people talking on his behalf.” Ford added that “I have proven in Scarborough that I can deal with the province and the feds, so I hope John and Mr. Harper have a very good relationship like he says they have because he might be getting called sooner rather than later.”
