Amandeep Singh charged with assault in Winnipeg

On November 2nd, 2010 at approximately 12:30 a.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received a call to attend to a business located in the 200 block of Vaughan Street, regarding a female employee that had just been assaulted by a male patron.

Upon arrival officers located a 27 year old female suffering from minor injuries to her upper body. Police learned that a verbal dispute had occurred between the employee and this male suspect which escalated into the intoxicated suspect punching her in the head.

The suspect male, along with 2 other males fled the scene in a vehicle and police were summoned.

The victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition to receive treatment for her injuries.

Then at approximately 1:45 a.m., Officers responded to a restaurant in the 1500 block of Kenaston Boulevard for a report of an intoxicated and disorderly male who had assaulted an employee. Information received indicated that his male, along with two other males, had since fled the scene in a vehicle.

Officers attended and met with the 21 year old male employee who had minor injuries as a result of the assault. Medical attention was not required.

Observant patrolling members spotted the suspect vehicle, as described in the above noted incidents, driving through a neighbouring parking lot. This vehicle had initially stopped a red light, at Kenaston Boulevard, however as the police unit approached, the vehicle accelerated into the intersection disregarding the red light signal and attempted to flee.

The suspect vehicle reached speeds of approximately 100 kph while driving eastbound Lindenwood Drive East and failed to stop at a 4-way stop sign. Officers observed this vehicle to mount a median and then finally come to rest in a parking stall in the area of the 400 block of Lindenwood Drive East.

The male driver was immediately taken into custody without incident.

Amandeep SINGH, 25 years of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following;
– Assault
– Impaired Driving- Motor Vehicle
– Drive Over .08- Motor Vehicle
– Drive Carelessly
– Flight from Police Officer
– Assault with a Weapon
– Fail to comply with Condition of a Recognizance X3
– Highway Traffic Act, Driver carry liquor in a motor vehicle

SINGH has been detained in custody at the Provincial Remand Centre.
