Vancouver Police are appealing for witnesses to a December 21st alleged road rage incident that escalated into physical violence.

Around 10:45 p.m. last Tuesday evening, a Canada Post tractor trailer unit and a grey, two-door Honda Civic crossed over the Cambie Street Bridge and continued southbound on Cambie until both vehicles stopped near West 18th. Up ahead, an RCMP member was dealing with an unrelated motor vehicle accident near West 19th Avenue. Allegedly, in the time between crossing the bridge and stopping at West 18th Avenue, some sort of road rage interaction had taken place between the vehicles.

Once stopped near West 18th and Cambie, the Canada Post driver and the occupants of the Honda Civic got out of their vehicles and approached each other. As they came together in the roadway, a physical altercation erupted. The RCMP officer observed the Canada Post driver being assaulted and intervened. Vancouver Police arrived and took over the investigation. One man was arrested for assault.

Thirty-one year old  of Vancouver is now charged with assault. He will be appearing in court on January 11th. The 55 year old Canada Post driver suffered facial injuries including cuts, bruises and scrapes.

Vancouver Police are asking anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the assault or the interaction between the vehicles along Cambie Street to contact police.
