Ottawa thief tries to flee police using ATV

The Ottawa Police Service charged a 23 year old Ottawa man with several weapons related offences following an attempt theft that occurred early this morning in the Hazeldean Road/Abbeyhill Road area.

At 2 a.m. police were called in regards to a masked man seen in a backyard. When the suspect realized he had been seen, he fled on an ATV.

Officers located the man and attempted to stop him. After colliding with a fence, the suspect fled on foot and was arrested shortly after by K9 officers. The suspect was in possession of a firearm, ammunition, a knife and pepper spray.

Jason HOLMES is charged with:

Careless handling of a firearm
Pointing a firearm
Weapons dangerous (3 counts)
Carrying a concealed weapon (2 counts)
Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Possession of a firearm knowing no authority
Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
Possess firearm by crime
Possession of a firearm contrary to order
Possession of ammunition contrary to order
Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to order
Robbery with a firearm
Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
Possess prohibited weapon knowing no authority
Uttering threats
Trespass at night
Dangerous driving
Impaired driving
Operate a motor vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol in blood

HOLMES will appear in Show Cause court on January 1, 2011.
