Two men charged in the shooting of a 18 year old, Windsor

The Windsor Police Service has two men in custody and continue to investigate after a man was shot in the head last night on the city’s east side. At 7:45 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011, uniformed WPS officers along with paramedics responded to the 1600 block of Drouillard Rd. for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, paramedics located a 20 year old man on the sidewalk suffering from a single gun shot wound to his head. The victim was with an 18 year old friend. The victim was conscious and responding to paramedics at the scene. He was transported to Hotel Dieu Hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

The investigation led officers to an address at 1646 Drouillard Rd. where it is believed the shooting took place. Two 18 year old men were taken into custody at the scene – one being the friend of the victim at the time of EMS arrival. The second man was located inside an apartment at 1646 Drouillard Rd. Both suspects taken into custody are known to the victim.

Officers located and seized a .22 caliber rifle next to a fence in the alley behind 1646 Drouillard Rd. The investigation is ongoing and investigators will be executing a search warrant today on the apartment. At this time, charges in this investigation are pending.

Dylan LAFRENIERE – 18 years of Windsor is facing nine charges including Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm, Careless Use Of A Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm While Prohibited and Failing to Comply With a Condition of a Judicial Release.

Joshua FORTEY – 18 years of Windsor is facing nine charges including Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm, Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime, Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited and Failing to Comply with a Youth Criminal Justice Act Sentence.

Both accused will appear in court this afternoon.
