On January 20th, Sooke RCMP received a report advising that a 16 year old girl who was known to take part in high risk activities, had gone missing. Her exact whereabouts were unknown. Sooke RCMP officers were familiar with the young woman, and quickly located her at a Sooke residence.

A family member at the residence initially refused to allow officers inside the home, to check on the young girls condition. The officers insisted on checking on the girl given their legitimate concerns for her well being and safety.

Once inside the residence, the girl was found to be unconscious and unresponsive, with labored breathing. British Columbia Ambulance Service Paramedics were called, and arrived a short time later. The girl was rushed to hospital, where she received emergency medical treatment, and was listed in critical condition.

Doctors later informed police that had officers not located this young woman when they did, she would likely have died. The teen has since responded to treatment, and is expected to survive. All indications are that her medical issues were as a result of using a combination of illicit drugs, including cocaine, alcohol, and marihuana. It is unknown at this time what long term affects she may have sustained.

"This tragic situation should serve as a warning to any young person in our community who considers using illicit, and dangerous drugs", says S/Sgt. Steve Wright, Detachment Commander for the Sooke RCMP. "I could just as easily be telling you about this young woman’s death, as I am about her rescue."

Sooke RCMP in conjunction with regional policing partners are continuing to investigate this serious incident, in an attempt to identify and investigate the person(s) responsible for supplying these drugs to this young woman.
