Drunken Hamilton man kills 11 year old girl while drinking and driving

The Hamilton Police Service is investigating the City’s 6th traffic fatality that happened on a rural road in Hamilton.

On Friday March 4th, 2011 at approximately 11:30 p.m., the driver of a pick-up truck eastbound on Jerseyville Road W. from Alberton Rd., Hamilton lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle rolled in the ditch, struck a tree, and came to rest at the side of the road. Emergency Services were contacted and police, ambulance and firefighters attended.

An 11 yr. old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, and three adults were taken to hospital by ambulance.

A 44 yr. old female passenger remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She is the mother of the deceased child.

A 45 yr. old female passenger remains in hospital in critical but stable condition. She is an acquaintance of the mother.

A 54 yr. old male who has been identified as the driver remains in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has been arrested for Impaired Driving Causing Death and Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm x 2. He will be having a bail hearing later today. He is the common law spouse of the mother of the deceased child.

All of the involved persons are from Hamilton. Their names are not being released at this time as next of kin have not been notified.
