Gordon Brian BERG, 53 years old, has been identified as the victim of murder. Mr. Berg’s body was discovered by police, in his home located on the 2000 block of Jeanine Drive, in Langford, BC, late Monday night.
At 7:15 am yesterday morning, police arrested the sole suspect in this murder. Joseph KNELSEN, 44 years old, of Langford, BC, has been charged with 1st Degree Murder, in relation to the death of Gordon Berg. Police anticipate further charges to be laid against Mr. Knelsen in the future.
Joseph Knelsen was remanded in to police custody overnight, and will make his first court appearance at the Western Communities Provincial Court at 9:30 am this morning.
Officers with the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, the West Shore RCMP, and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section, continue to actively investigate this crime. The residence where the murder occurred, located on Jeanine Drive, remains behind police tape, with forensic investigators continuing a methodical examination within.
The RCMP Island District Tactical Troop will be at the scene today, to conduct a grid search of the property surrounding the home. This scene will remain under police control until lead investigators are satisfied they have recovered all possible evidence.
The BC Coroners Service will conduct a forensic autopsy today, in Vancouver.
"There is considerable work yet to be done by the investigational team, to ensure that all available evidence related to this crime is gathered, and delivered to the Courts", stated Cpl. Darren Lagan of the Vancouver Island RCMP. "We appreciate the patience of the residents on Jeanine Drive, as we continue our work in the coming days."
As this matter is now before the courts, police will not release any further details on their investigation.
