England will look forward to defend their number one spot in Test team rankings, while the strong South African side is also looking to advance to the top rank from Third place as both of the teams will meet in first of three Test matches at the Basil D' Oliveira Trophy in Oval on Thursday.

In their last meet up in England, South Africa edged England 2-1 in 2008, but England have been unbeaten at home since then, rising to number one in the world rankings under captain Andrew Strauss and coach Andy Flower. However, South Africa have not lost an away series since they were beaten in Sri Lanka in 2006. They are ranked third but will regain the first rank from England which they had lost since 2008, if they win the series.

England skipper Andrew Strauss also not taking this series easy as he said: "South Africa adapts very well as a team. They have a good record away from home, and they have a lot of experienced players. There's no way this is going to be an easy series, and the best side over the three Tests will be the one that wins the series.”. The England probable line up include: Andrew Strauss (c), Alastair Cook, Ian Bell, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Matt Prior (wk), James Anderson, Tim Bresnan, Graeme Swann.

South Africa has never achieved a victory in any Test match at the Oval. They’ve played 13 matches there and have lost six of them, drawing the other seven. It’s a bit of a poisoned chalice for the Proteas, but they insist it’s not something they are too fussed about. The South African team may include: Graeme Smith (c), Jacques Rudolph, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers (wk), JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn,  Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

This Test match series between England and South Africa features six of the world's top 10 Test bowlers and eight of the top 17 Test batsmen. A much required series by the world of cricket.
