The 17th stage of the Tour de France will be a critical stage as top contenders can take the lead with a little push to their performance on Thursday July 19, 2012. The second straight high mountain fight, stage 17 is the last chance for those that stand out in the slopes to make their mark. After this one, riders will feel easier, with no more peak stages left for the rest of the race.
Stage 17 has high mountains with a total 1,755m high point over a distance of 143.5km that will challenge even the most capable climbers. it schedule from Bagneres-de-Luchon to Peyragudes.
Every contender will look for some slight edge that will put them in a better spot to be the champion. Preliminary in Bagneres-de-Luchon, the stage looks like a steady upward splash until it reaches its finish line in Payragudes.
The sturdy ascending mount of stage 17 is only 144 km extensive but considering how hard it should be on each person, the length makes sense. This little stage packs a lot of cuff, and if the racers are not prepared for it then they will find themselves in the back of the pack. However, after this riders only left with the flat stages to cover-up.
