With Auckland Aces having already qualified for the main draw of the tournament, this final match from Qualifying Pool One is no more than a dead rubber. These can be the toughest for the teams themselves and may lead to some exciting results.
Hampshire is considered to have an edge over the Stallions. Both sides lost by similar margins to Auckland but Hampshire are thought to be the stronger team based on their domestic success back in England. The Hawks won both one day trophies including the English T20 tournament. However, they did not perform up to the expectations in their match against Aces. The absences of the likes of Neil McKenzie and Danny Briggs were particularly telling and Shahid Afridi offered little on his return to the side. The Royals will hope to depart the tournament with a bang though. The probable Hampshire squad will include: AD Mascarenhas*, JHK Adams, Kabir Ali, DJ Balcombe, MD Bates†, MA Carberry, LA Dawson, SM Ervine, DA Griffiths, GJ Maxwell, H Riazuddin, BM Shafayat, Shahid Afridi, JM Vince, CP Wood.
The Stallions batting display against Auckland was equally poor and their highest score came from all-rounder Shahid Yousuf who made 39. Stallions had faced difficulty to deal with the bat and failed to win T20 matches at Johannesburg with a score of 130. They were beaten by the pace and bounce of the Auckland bowlers on that occasion but Hampshire bowl a lot more medium pace which should suit the Stallions batting.
This wicket at The Wanderers is unlikely to suit either side as both would appreciate some turn in the wicket. Stallions will be less disappointed with their performance as this is the first year, Pakistan side have been in the tournament so it served for them as a breakthrough. The likely Stallions line up will include: Shoaib Malik*, Ali Khan, Bilawal Bhatti, Faisal Naved, Haris Sohail, Imran Nazir, Mohammad Ayub, Naved-ul-Hasan, Qaiser Abbas, Raza Hasan, Sarfraz Ahmed, Shahid Yousuf, Shakeel Ansar†, Umaid Asif.
