Almost a month ago to the day, the Montreal Impact rolled into town and handed FC Edmonton a lopsided loss in front of a Foote Field crowd at FC Edmonton’s home opener.
Turnabout is fair play however and FC Edmonton is travelling to La Belle Province this weekend seeking revenge for the 5-0 loss.
Montreal is one of two NASL teams to beat FC Edmonton this season, the other being the first place Carolina RailHawks, but since the May 1 drubbing, the two Canadian teams have gone in completely different directions.
While FC Edmonton has won three league games and drawn one since May 1, the Impact have struggled and have lost two and drawn one.
Edmonton’s form is enough to see the team take over sole possession of second place while the Impact are second last in the league, just three points ahead of the last-place Atlanta Silverbacks.
FC Edmonton’s game against the Montreal Impact kicks off at 12:30 pm (Edmonton time) from Saputo Stadium.
OTHER FACTS:
• In the last meeting, FCE starting goalkeeper Rein Baart was shown a straight red for a hard foul and forward Chris Lemire joined his teammate after arguing the call.
• Both FC Edmonton and the Montreal Impact were knocked out of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship in the semi-final round.
• Montreal’s Ali Gerba has been selected to play for Canada in the Gold Cup and may miss Saturday’s game.
