Vancouver Whitecaps FCPhiladelphia Union pick-up Nizar Khalfan on waivers

Montreal Impact selected Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Jeb Brovsky as their fifth selection in the 2011 MLS Expansion Draft, while Philadelphia Union picked up Whitecaps FC midfielder Nizar Khalfan in the league’s Waiver Draft. 

Brovsky, 22, joined Whitecaps FC last January after being selected in the second round (19th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. This past season, the native of Lakewood, Colorado, made 24 regular season appearances for 1,509 minutes of action, while also playing in one Nutrilite Canadian Championship match. 

Khalfan, 23, made 22 regular season appearances for 1,066 minutes of action, while also playing in four Nutrilite Canadian Championship matches last season. The native of Mtwara, Tanzania, arrived in Vancouver midway through the 2009 United Soccer Leagues First Division season, and in three seasons with Whitecaps FC, Khalfan made 58 appearances for 3,029 minutes of action.
