Sparta Rotterdam Continues Summer Acquisition with Django Warmerdam despite Injury
Sparta Rotterdam continues its push to strengthen its Eredivisie squad with the signing announcement of FC Utrecht left back, Django Warmerdam. The 27-year-old, who is currently injured, will be transferring to Sparta on a free transfer and will be signed for two seasons.
Third Summer Acquisition for Sparta Rotterdam
Before this acquisition, Sparta Rotterdam had already announced the signing of Saïd Bakari and Pelle Clement (both RKC), making Warmerdam their third summer acquisition. The primary reason for Warmerdam’s signing to the Dutch football team is due to the expected departure of their current left back, Mica Pinto.
Injury to FC Utrecht Defender
Warmerdam has not played for FC Utrecht since suffering from a knee injury in November 2020 during a cup match against Sportlust ’46 (0-3). Despite his injury, Sparta Rotterdam still believes that Warmerdam offers value to their gameplay due to his past performances in Eredivisie matches.
Positive Outlook on Warmerdam’s Arrival
“Django is a player who has proven to be of added value in the Eredivisie,” says technical director Gerard Nijkamp regarding Warmerdam’s signing. “We are convinced that he fits well with our playing style and ambitions,” he adds.
Warmerdam’s Football Career
Django Warmerdam started his football career by joining Ajax’s youth academy. He has since then played for PEC Zwolle, FC Groningen, and FC Utrecht, which he has played a total of 71 matches. Warmerdam is expected to join Sparta Rotterdam next summer.
Sparta Rotterdam’s Play-Off Hopes
Sparta Rotterdam has already secured its participation in the play-offs for European football.
On the other hand, FC Utrecht is currently ranked seventh in the Eredivisie league table and needs to win their upcoming game against RKC on Saturday to qualify for the play-offs.
