Madonna has a problem. She’s kicking off her Celebration tour this summer and as usual she has a few stops planned in Florida. That normally wouldn’t be a big deal, but the state recently enacted some new laws which basically ban drag performances, and Madonna’s opening act is none other than Bob The Drag Queen! Bob is a gender bending artist whose big break was on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The Law Against Drag Performance

Florida has recently passed a law banning drag performances that are intended for minors. The law states that individuals are not allowed to “knowingly and intentionally” perform in drag for children, defined as anyone under the age of 18, in certain spaces. The law covers such areas as theaters, concert halls, and bars and can lead up to $1000 in fines or even imprisonment. The law was passed after a Republican lawmaker argued that drag performers were not appropriate for children, citing their sexually explicit nature.

Madonna’s Reaction

Madonna is known for pushing boundaries and breaking rules. She is refusing to replace Bob as her opening act and won’t let the state’s new law bring her down. The tour insider said that Madonna isn’t one to go along with the law and is willing to face any consequences that may happen on the tour.

Bob The Drag Queen

Bob The Drag Queen, whose real name is Caldwell Tidicue, is a drag performer, comedian, and musician. He rose to fame after winning the eighth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The Tour

The tour will kick off in Miami Beach on September 18, 2022, and will continue throughout North America before wrapping up in Paris on November 18, 2022. The tour is in celebration of Madonna’s 40th year in the music industry and will feature her greatest hits along with some new material.

What’s Next?

It’s uncertain what the future holds for Madonna’s Celebration tour in Florida. The venues where she’s performing could get fined or even lose their liquor licenses if they allow Bob The Drag Queen to perform. However Madonna has not shown any signs of backing down and will continue to stand by her opening act.
