inDANCE presents BOX

Bharatanatyam & Bollywood with an Attitude

Following its critically acclaimed debut in New York City in April 2009, inDANCE is proud to present BOX at Toronto’s Fleck Dance Theatre March 18 to 20, 2010. BOX will be performed as part of a retrospective in celebration of the company’s 10-year anniversary.

Smudging classical/post-modern aesthetics, inDANCE crafts a provocative global view of contemporary Indian dance. Box features a company of daring and masterful dancers performing five unique pieces.

Infused with classical Bharatanatyan, contemporary movement and urban influence, inDANCE artistic director and choreographer Hari Krishnan creates a spectacular palette of creative choreography, color, and costume adding that, "the objective of the fun-filled event was to produce work that is bold and provocative, and in the process, presenting a differing dimension to South Indian dance."

Dancers: Nalin Bisnath, Sreyashi Chakaraborti, Paul Charbonneau, Beth Despres, Kalidas, Hiroshi Miyamoto, Srividya Natarajan, Shobana Raveendran, Masumi Sato, Vinod Shankar, Emily Watts and Hari Krishnan.

Established in 1999, inDANCE is one of Canada’s most progressive dance companies. It presents works that are a unique synthesis of Hari Krishnan’s South Asian and Western aesthetic sensibilities. The company enjoys creating inventive, stimulating works that challenge dominant discourses about culture.
