Contemporary artist Brooke Harker is excited to participate in the Beverly Hills artSHOW the weekend, May 19th and 20th. Featuring over 250-juried artists, this event has been taking place for almost forty years and has become the city’s largest public event taking place in the spring and fall of each year.
Brooke Harker discusses, art, her work and why she became an artist, “I believe that the key ingredient in art is love…there is no “fixing” that solves a composition in my eyes…it is adding love and energy that makes a piece work. Yet every work does not have to be a masterpiece. The experience of creating is the best part of the journey.”
She adds, “It is said that the world becomes a better place when each person connects to their joy…so I paint because I feel free and full of love.”
Harker loves to paint in her studio. She explains, “I stand and paint in an outdoor studio that feels like a garden where fairies live. As a tree has grown to a shade canopy covering most of my patio, recent work takes flight on the other side of my fence in the sunshine. Passing neighbors and strangers stop to tell me about their lives, visit me with their dogs, and ask questions. I tend to meet random people when I sketch or paint on location too…I take this as a compliment that people want to tell me about their lives. They add an element of surprise to my day, and their stories become part of my work.”

When asked if she has ever shown in the Beverly Hills artSHOW, she replies, “I had a few paintings in through a gallery in 2007. This is my first time with my own
booth!”
Harker will be showing her latest series, “Cityscapes” which shares impressions of urban scenery. You can find Brooke at Booth #358 (between, Canon & Crescent on the southwest corner).
The Beverly Hills artSHOW takes place on May 19th and 20th from10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. All activities occur at the historic Beverly Gardens and admission is free. Beverly Gardens is located along Santa Monica Blvd, from Rodeo Drive to Rexford Drive. Parking is available and inexpensive in many City parking structures (see http://bit.ly/bhartshowpkg for details) located just south of Santa Monica Boulevard.
