Aaron Sorkin’s The Farnsworth Invention: The Race to Create TV

Camarillo Skyway Playhouse (Camarillo, CA)

"The Farnsworth Invention"

Emmy and Academy Award-winning writer Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The West Wing, Newsroom) penned this crackling 2007 drama about the race to invent what was arguably the 20th century’s most influential technology — television. The picture that ultimately comes into focus is a rousing tale of corporate power versus the individual entrepreneur. In 1929, Mormon farm boy Philo T. Farnsworth works on an idea he developed in high school to broadcast sound and images across the airwaves to a TV set. Meanwhile, across the country, media mogul David Sarnoff of RCA races to do the same. This production is part of Camarillo Skyway Playhouse’s 2012 series, titled The American Experience.
