Variedades: Historically-Themed Mexican Music, Theater and Dance at Ford Amphitheatre

Variedades: The Ballad of Ricardo Flores Magon is a night of music, theater and dance offering a glimpse into an important but little-known figure in the history of Los Angeles: Mexican revolutionary Ricardo Flores Magón. Based on the traditional Mexican variedades (variety show) format, this performance evokes early twentieth century Los Angeles, an era in which activists gathered at the Old Plaza and faced off with their political nemeses: the Los Angeles Times and the LAPD. Slated to perform are Rubén Martínez, Raquel Gutiérrez, Quetzal, Ceci Bastida, Josh Kun, Marisoul Hernandez, Chicano Son, The Martínez Del Río Band, Yuri Batres-Estévez and Joe Grimm. This performance will be taped for broadcast on KCET as part of its Live at the Ford television series.
