VS. Theatre Company (Los Angeles, CA)
It’s the early ’90s and Gus’s Fashions & Shoes is the coolest clothing store in downtown St. Louis, drawing in a clientele that includes cops, gangsters and everyone in between. With the help of an unscrupulous detective, Gus is trying to help his aspiring rapper son Matty beat a murder charge by pinning the crime on his son’s black friend. Gus’s Fashions & Shoes is the second installation in a trilogy on police/minority relations, running at VS. Theatre Company in Los Angeles. Hilarious and poignant, the simmering new work from Ron Klier plays on the complex issues of race, police corruption and living as a minority in America.
