Highways Performance Space and Gallery (Santa Monica, CA)
Three sisters, possibly witches, convene in a drawing room to conjure up dark songs and flashback to an infinite number of life events — from the insignificant to the monumental. That’s the moody, magical scene set by sSISTERSs, a new full-length theatre production that incorporates live music and three-part vocal harmony. In rapid-fire stream of consciousness text, the sisters take on far-flung famous triads, including Chekhov’s Masha, Irina and Olga, the three main Native American crops (squash, maize and beans), the Catholic Holy Trinity and the First, Second and Third Waves of American feminism. Through warped children’s games, songs and secret girlhood rituals, these sSISTERSs explore memory, family, mortality and more. L.A.-based playwright Gina Young directs this mind-bending, mysterious piece at Highways Performance Space and Gallery.
