The Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center (Santa Monica, CA)
From Benny Goodman’s greatest hits to crowd favorites like Van Alexanders’ “A Tisket A Tasket,” The Broad Stage will be thumping with the brassy sounds of swing in the first concert from the Musicians at Play Foundation. The concert will feature the work of five big band greats–Patrick Williams, Ralph Carmichael, Bill Holman, Sammy Nestico and Van Alexander (celebrating his 100th birthday)–plus Mary Poppins songwriter Richard Sherman. Songs you’ll hear include “A Spoon Full of Sugar,” “I’ve Got You Under my Skin,” “Strike Up The Band,” and more. Leonard Maltin, one of the country’s most recognized and respected film critics and historians, will serve as Master of Ceremonies, and a few highly-anticipated surprise guests will also participate.
