King King Hollywood (Hollywood, CA)
L.A.’s avant-garde art and music guru David Melendez returns with another groundbreaking musical interpretation of a seminal rock album at his Hollywood nightclub King King. Taking on David Bowie’s 1974 glam-tinged Diamond Dogs, Melendez presents a full performance of the album’s 11 songs spun with a musical theater twist. The concept album married the novel 1984 with Bowie’s own vision of a post-apocalyptic world and includes songs like “Future Legend,” “Rebel Rebel” and “Big Brother.” With the second half of the album containing songs Bowie originally meant to turn into a theatrical production himself, this live performance and re-interpretation of Diamond Dogs is a one-off event that picks up where the man also known as Ziggy Stardust left off more than 40 years ago.
