Victor Hugo's "Les Misérables"

You may have caught the movie, or watched the musical, or (gulp!) read the 1,504-page novel, but until you’ve seen Jonathan Holloway’s inventive stage adaptation, you have not experienced the full emotional power of Les Misérables. In this bold, gritty and modern re-visioning of Victor Hugo’s immortal story, the timeline is moved up a century, with events now spanning the jazzy and culturally vibrant 1930’s and oppressive Vichy regime of the 1940’s. Through it all, night club own Pere Madeleine tries to regain his true identity, while keeping a promise to one woman and her child. Encounter Les Mis again — in an entirely new way — as Planta Genista Productions presents the Los Angeles premiere of this new-old story of forgiveness and redemption, of deep despair and immortal hope.
