The Toronto Design Directory Portfolio Review Night is a chance to not only have your work seen, but to meet people and hear about their experiences working in the industry, how they went from being a student to an intern/junor and onward, what they learned, who helped them, and what they wish they had known at the beginning. Finding a design job is about who you know just as much as how good you are. This is what the TDD stands for: bringing people within our community together and surfacing people and places in Toronto at large.

Each reviewee will have the chance to speak with three reviewers for about 15 – 20 minutes each. There will be time for mingling and talking to others before and after the reviews, and there will be snacks on hand.

FAQs

Who is this event for?

This event is intended for art directors, designers and illustrators. If you can see yourself working at one of the studios or agencies listed on the Toronto Design Directory site, and your work fits into the Showcase, then this is the right event for you.

Do I have to be an OCAD U student or alumni?

No! We welcome people from all schools and backgrounds. OCAD U is our generous host, but we want to see people from all over the GTA and beyond.

Can I attend if I'm no longer a student?

Yes! This event is ideal for people who are two to three years out of school, or those within their last two years of school. Any earlier and you're probably not ready to have your portfolio looked at. Keep working and learning and come join us in a year or so.

What should I bring to the event?

Bring your portfolio with five or six pieces of your best work. There is a limited amount of time for you to speak to reviewer, and you want to get to the good stuff right away. Your portfolio can be either digital or in print; keep in mind for digital portfolios laptops, tablets that you may not be able to get online, and there's no guarantee we'll have a power outlet for you. Plan ahead and have a copy of your work saved to your harddrive and have your device fully charged. Also consider bringing business cards to share with your reviewers and others you meet that night.

Can I be a reviewer?

If you're interested in becoming a reviewer at a future event please send us an email at contact@torontodesigndirectory.com
