Warren Buffett wants all to share this on Facebook

Warren Buffett wants everyone on Facebook to share this idea, or to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.  In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. _*Congressional Reform Act of 2011-12*_

1. No Tenure / No Pension.  A Congressman/ woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.  All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American  people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/ women are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/ women.  Congressmen/ women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message.  Don't you think it's time? THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!  If you agree with the above, pass it on, or share it on Facebook.  If not, just go to your next news story.  Please keep it going, and thanks.

I would add making insider trading laws applicable to Congress & the ability to remove them with a 'no confidence' vote if they aren't doing what they're there to... You would then have a responsive congress.

The way to fix Congress is to pay them much higher wages...
and ABSOLUTELY FORBID, from the moment they declare their intentions to stand for Congress, any receipt of money/gifts from companies, contributions to re-election funds, lobbyists, and anyone who is trying to influence the way they vote, other than people who actually live in their congressional district. Paying them high wages (at least $1m per year) will ensure that they don't take such gifts.

I agree with the latter statement, but why can't their jobs be public service. Don't pay them anything more than the average American makes, if at all.

+2 #19 Term limitsRussell 2012-01-16 20:34
I'd like to see a proviso that states that any elected official is limited to one consecutive term, no matter what. You can run again but not right after your first term. This will stop the career politicians and it will curb the political contributions which seem to be the root of all evil in Washington.

How about paying attention in 5th grade Warren. Sending emails to 20 people is not going to do a thing. Get out there and get a real petition signed or donate some of your ready cash Warren to getting this done....that how we change the laws in this country. Our civil rights and the Constitution are not social networks!

Kierstin, How about you pay attention to the news. Well, not necessarily the mass media, but news none the less.

1) Sending emails to 20 people can have an enormous impact. Depending on the follow up. It also serves to raise awareness so that those willing to do something have, at least, the backing of sympathizers.

2) "Get out there and get a real petition signed or donate some of your ready cash Warren to getting this done" - Oh, really? Do some homework on Mr. Buffett and how much money he's spent and donated to these causes. Read about all the leg-work he's done to rally people for his cause.

Sometimes I believe people like you just want to live with your head in a hole and pretend everything will turn out fine. Well, will it?

People are fed up with the status quo but when some stand up and gather to be heard there needs to be a clear message. Otherwise it becomes just the brunt of jokes and is not taken seriously. The folks in Washington seem to be forgetting the reason they are there and instead their minds are too occupied with staying there.

+5 #16 too old? Ha!Kerry 2012-01-12 10:09
anyone who says they personally don't think that someone in their 80's is going to be in touch with the younger generations and embrace their ideas that would benefit society obviously hasn't been around old people much. Whether or not someone is a hinderence or a benefit to society all depends on how much grey matter they use in their life time. I know a lot of older people in their 80's that would be great in serving their community or country. Only problem is they are usually to smart to play those games.

+13 #15 Schools, libraries, museums and moreJaimi Parsons 2012-01-11 01:26
Many schools, libraries, hospitals, museums etc rely on volunteers and fundraising. Why couldn't Congressional members rely on the basic pay and social security the rest of Americans rely on?

Warren Buffet's idea makes basic, common sense.
