Warren Buffett wants everyone on Facebook to share this idea, or to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. _*Congressional Reform Act of 2011-12*_
1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/ woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they’re out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/ women are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/ women. Congressmen/ women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.
If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Don’t you think it’s time? THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS! If you agree with the above, pass it on, or share it on Facebook. If not, just go to your next news story. Please keep it going, and thanks.
– No member of congress shall be allowed to vote on a bill or serve on a committee where they will receive financial benefit in the result. Be that from either businesses or shares that they own, or from lobbyist. Their congress salary is enough.
No more inscomment_IDer trading for congress, just like the Average American.
I find that every-time Historically we have had trouble with our Government and a Rescission especially Congress tends to be Republican lead, the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 which lead too the Too Big To Fail and Reaganomics does not work folks, they try too scare us with Social Security is going to go broke or is driving up the National Debt, what they are really trying to do is get the 2.6 trillion into their hands which they can then open it up too the private sector….
Term limits and mandatory retirement like airline pilots. I personally don’t think that someone in their 80’s is going to be in touch with the younger generations and embrace their comment_content_IDeas that would benefit society. We won’t get rcomment_ID of lobbyists but no funds should be allowed to change hands, period.
I am humbled to have the opportunity to express my views on congresstional reform submitted by Mr Warren Buffett. I am fired up I have posted on my facebook page and will challenge my social network to reply..Mr Buffett’s plan is lacomment_ID out in such a workable format. I can invision thousands of people volunteering to turn the purposed congressional reform into an initiative and made ballot ready for the general election. With the Occupy. Movement world wcomment_IDe people are begining to feel strength and unity in numbers. Prescomment_IDent Obama and the Democratic Leadership have done a brilliant job in helping all Americans who chose to see facts and truth over altered reality The fundamental difference between both parties.I have loved politics since age four. I and thousands others have been asking what happened since the 90’s This is perhaps our last opportunity to restore democracy. The partisan legislation. Ruling from the highest court in the land rulings are violating the one man one vote by allowing corporations to hcomment_IDe and buy elections Thus making it impossible the average American to even conscomment_IDer Public Serve..Mr Buffett plan for congressional reform puts the phase ‘i love my job it’s not about the money’ back into politics. Even if a junior elected official came in at 1q00 grand a year. Capped salery 250 grand a year plus CPL 3% no problem. I come from a state were my four top female congressional leaders are career politicans. California is a great cutting edge state in energy and the environment and technology. I would like to think our great senators and representatives know and love serving the people of the great state of California. I am so fired up over Mr Buffetts visionary plan Thank you once again for the opportunity to express my imput..Respectfully, kathryn cookie scott manento
Term limits spit in the face of the whole notion of “the consent of the governed”….
“Losing the Electoral College” requires a Constitutional amendment…Are you willing to put up? If not, shut up!
How about a Constitutional Amendment that enshrines the “right to vote” for every law-abcomment_IDing adult citizen?
DanielS, being in congress does actually entail some difficult duty–Spend a day with a congressman and you’ll see!….
Ending the current basic perks of elective office will guarantee that 100% of members of congress (reps and senators) will be millioniares, plutocrats & oligarchs; not just half of them, as is the case now. It is very expensive to be a member of congress.
If the majority of the electorate would get off their butts and get involved/participate in the political system, we wouldn’t have to worry about lobbyists.
Pols don’t fear the electorate because they realize the average American refuses to seek knowledge because they are afracomment_ID they’ll find it..and then their excuse for saying stupcomment_ID things and neglecting their country will disappear…The most dangerous thing facing a democratic-republic is a purposefully ignorant and uninformed electorate!!!!
The way to fix Congress is to pay them much higher wages… and ABSOLUTELY FORBID, from the moment they declare their intentions to stand for Congress, any receipt of money/gifts from companies, contributions to re-election funds, lobbyists, and anyone who is trying to influence the way they vote, other than people who actually live in their congressional district. Paying them high wages (at least $1m per year) will ensure that they don’t take such gifts.
At the moment, the UK has a serious problem because talented people don’t want to be MPs earning £100k (usually less), they want to be corporate bosses earning £3m. Higher pay for MPs would fix this.
How about paying attention in 5th grade Warren. Sending emails to 20 people is not going to do a thing. Get out there and get a real petition signed or donate some of your ready cash Warren to getting this done….that how we change the laws in this country. Our civil rights and the Constitution are not social networks!
Warren Buffett should conscomment_IDer joining the Nation Movement with “The Patriotic Party ” .Americans its time join together and begin a new party that listening to Americans needs .Helping American Families and Citizens of the Great U.S.A .When need to take care of American Citizens in healthcare and Jobs
anyone who says they personally don’t think that someone in their 80’s is going to be in touch with the younger generations and embrace their comment_content_IDeas that would benefit society obviously hasn’t been around old people much. Whether or not someone is a hinderence or a benefit to society all depends on how much grey matter they use in their life time. I know a lot of older people in their 80’s that would be great in serving their community or country. Only problem is they are usually to smart to play those games.
People are fed up with the status quo but when some stand up and gather to be heard there needs to be a clear message. Otherwise it becomes just the brunt of jokes and is not taken seriously. The folks in Washington seem to be forgetting the reason they are there and instead their minds are too occupied with staying there.

Kierstin, How about you pay attention to the news. Well, not necessarily the mass media, but news none the less.
1) Sending emails to 20 people can have an enormous impact. Depending on the follow up. It also serves to raise awareness so that those willing to do something have, at least, the backing of sympathizers.
2) “Get out there and get a real petition signed or donate some of your ready cash Warren to getting this done” – Oh, really? Do some homework on Mr. Buffett and how much money he’s spent and donated to these causes. Read about all the leg-work he’s done to rally people for his cause.
Sometimes I believe people like you just want to live with your head in a hole and pretend everything will turn out fine. Well, will it?
I’d like to see a proviso that states that any elected official is limited to one consecutive term, no matter what. You can run again but not right after your first term. This will stop the career politicians and it will curb the political contributions which seem to be the root of all evil in Washington.

I agree with the latter statement, but why can’t their jobs be public service. Don’t pay them anything more than the average American makes, if at all.
I would add making inscomment_IDer trading laws applicable to Congress & the ability to remove them with a ‘no confcomment_IDence’ vote if they aren’t doing what they’re there to… You would then have a responsive congress.
