Woman from St. John’s tries to jump from a plane in mid-flight

On July 6, 2010 at approximately 2:00p.m., a Commercial Airline, with 131 Passengers on board, was en-route to from Calgary, Alberta to Halifax, Nova Scotia, at approximately one hour into the flight, a 47 year old female passenger exited her seat and attempted to exit the plane by opening the door hatch.

The cabin crew restrained the female with the assistance of various passengers. The Commercial Airline elected to make an emergency landing at the Winnipeg James Richardson International Airport.

While trying to restrain the female the suspect assaulted an Airline Employee and a 77 year old male passenger. The 77 year old passenger suffered minor injuries as result of trying to restrain the suspect.

As result members of the Winnipeg Police Service Airport arrested Barbara Loretta MORTON, 47 yrs, of St. John’s, Newfoundland.

MORTON is facing the following charges;

-Mischief, Assault x2,
-Endangering Safety of Aircraft,
-Under the Aeronautics Act for Failing to Comply with Instructions of Flight/Cabin Crew.

The suspect was detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
