Manitoba Conservation Advises all Travellers In the Outdoors in the North to be Cautious

Manitoba Conservation advises that ongoing hot, dry weather in northern Manitoba means anyone travelling in the outdoors in the north this weekend should be extra careful in their activities, due to the potential to cause a forest fire. Dry conditions and lightning continue to be a challenge in this region.

Southern Manitoba continues to be wet with no significant fire concerns.

There were 19 new fires yesterday, 18 caused by lightning and one as a result of a tree falling on a power line. All fires are being dealt with and only one fire, about 12 kilometres northeast of Gillam, is of any concern at this time. Equipment being used to battle this fire includes two helicopters and about 30 firefighters.
